Closed Until Further Notice
My lease ended April 30, 2020 and with the uncertainty of the safety of massage therapy in a COVID 19 world, I decided not to renew.
I’ve been struggling with what to do since closing my doors on March 15th. Ultimately, with the government and health officials recommendations of 6’ of separation and “contactless payment” there isn’t a scenario where massage therapy can be considered safe.
I’ve taken the contact tracing course through Johns Hopkins and the information of most concern, as a massage therapist, is that "contact" is considered anyone less than 6’ away and greater than 15 minutes. It is impossible to maintain 6' of distance during a massage, and our sessions are often 60+ minutes. If I were to become infected, I could potentially infect each client I see while increasing the risk of infection due to the extended amount of time we spend together in a small, enclosed space. Each of you would then go out into the community and spread it to those you love and care about. With an incubation period of 5-14 days, and an average of 5 days before symptom onset, this could be a recipe for disaster.
Despite all the protocols, precautions, and PPE (back-ordered everywhere and really should be saved for the hospitals) there is no such thing as a safe massage in a COVID 19 world.
With all of this in mind, I have decided to close my practice for the foreseeable future. I will keep my license and CEU’s up to date for the day when we’re able to be together safely, but “safe enough” is simply not good enough.
Stay safe and stay healthy,
